Meme Text That's Actually Readable: 7 Quick Rules

Great caption, unreadable execution — it happens constantly. These seven rules fix most of it, and all of them are one control in the editor.

1. White fill, dark outline. The classic for a reason: it reads on almost any background. Reach for other colours only when the image is plain.
2. Outline thicker than you think. A thin outline vanishes over a busy photo. Push the thickness slider until the letters feel slightly heavy, then back off one step.
3. Big, or don’t bother. If your caption does not span most of the width, size it up. Tiny text reads as an afterthought.
4. Two short lines beat one long one. Break the sentence where the pause is. Meme text is spoken, not read.
5. Keep clear of the subject. Put text in the calm parts of the image — sky, wall, table — not across a face.
6. Match the script to the font. Sinhala on a Sinhala font, Tamil on a Tamil font. Mixed lines? Use separate boxes.
7. All-caps for punch, sentence case for a beat. The uppercase toggle is there for a reason — but a quiet lowercase line can land harder.
